History at Albert Park and Design
The Albert Park Circuit has experienced race car driving since the 1950s, even though the first Formula 1 Grand Prix wasn’t held until 1996. Much like the Old Course in St. Andrews, most of the year Albert Park is, well you guessed it, a park! This area includes an aquatic center, golf course, lakeside stadium, restaurants and boathouses.

Many of the Formula 1 drivers believe this track is one of the fastest on schedule. There are four DRS zones on this circuit, which creates an action packed race year in and year out. It’s also a relatively easy drive given the fact that this street circuit is built on public roads. The drivers find that it’s quite smooth as the roads were rebuilt in 1996 and are thoroughly maintained before each Grand Prix.
Why should you travel to Melbourne?
Well, you shouldn’t need much motivation to travel to Australia. The weather is beautiful, the Aussies are fun and Melbourne itself is one of the top tourist destinations in the world. You’ll find an incredible amount of history and culture in this global city.
Grandstands & Hospitality
It’s highly recommended purchasing a grandstand seat for this race. Given the relatively flat nature of Albert Park, spectating can really only be done from grandstands or hospitality. Grandstands 2 and 12 offer some of the best spots to catch overtaking and drivers jostling for position.
