The brilliant aspect of Irish whiskey is that it can be enjoyed at a weekend street brawl, an old man pub, golf club, or even a five star hotel. Don’t get me wrong, Scotch and bourbon are delicious whiskies, but there’s just something universal about Irish Whiskey.
Maybe it’s the fact that you can find an Irish pub anywhere in the world or that the Irish people seem to get along with everyone. Whatever the reason, a visit to a whiskey distillery in Ireland, during your golf trip, should be at the top of your agenda.
Below are the top distilleries along with golf course recommendations for Ireland:
Bushmills Distillery, Antrim
Personally, Bushmills is my all time favorite whiskey. Light, sweet and smooth. The best part of visiting the Bushmills Distillery, is that it sits right next to some of golf’s greatest golf courses. Royal Portrush and Portstewart are just a few minutes away. I recommend coming up from Dublin (2 hours drive) to play Royal County Down and Ardglass, then heading up north to Bushmills (2 hours). Phenomenal whiskey and golf combined to create an extraordinary trip.

Jameson Distillery, Midleton
If you love drinking Jameson whiskey, you’re in luck. They have two distillery experiences you can choose from. The Jameson Distillery in Midleton sits about 30 minutes outside Cork in the south of Ireland. It’s a perfect location to play the world famous Old Head Golf Links just down the road (1 hour 20 min drive)

Tullamore Dew, Offlay
Geographically, Tullamore Dew is not a great option for a golf trip. However, you can make it work as the whiskey is worth the drive! The distillery is located right in the heart of Ireland. When coming from Dublin you could make a detour, have a few glasses of the gold stuff, then continue on to Adare Manor or the southwest region around Killarney.
Jameson Distillery, Bow Street Dublin
The Jameson Distillery in Dublin has recently been renovated into a full on whiskey experience. They have done an incredible job turning this historic distillery into a modern drinking experience. Fitted with a world class bar, cocktail menu, a modern museum and chandelier’s made of whiskey bottles, this is one of the top things to do in Dublin. It’s also near some amazing golf courses.

Teeling Whiskey Company, Dublin
Teeling is the new kid on the block in terms of Whiskey. Established in 2015, they are already taking the Irish Whiskey industry by storm with their warm and full bodied liquor. Dublin is an amazing international city and should be on your itinerary for your next trip to Ireland.

Dingle Distillery, Kerry
Dingle is one of my favorite parts of Ireland. It sits on a little stretch of land in the southwest of Ireland. Dingle Distillery would be a perfect compliment on a day trip from Killarney. Grab some fish and chips, drink a few glasses of whiskey at Dingle Distillery, then hit the Dingle Golf Club in the afternoon. Simply Perfect!
