Iconic Monaco Grand Prix History

Monaco was first established in 1215 as a colony of Genoa. As for all European cities not destroyed by the great wars of the 20th century, Monaco has kept its historical charm while maintaining a modern luxurious image. Located near the borders of Southern France and Northern Italy, this city is a wonderful place to visit even if you’re not attending the race.

The first ever recorded race was in 1929 and was won by William Grover-Williams driving a Bugatti Type 35B. From it’s inception, the Monaco Grand Prix was highly regarded as one of the most important races of the year along with the French, Belgian, Italian and Spanish Grand Prix’s.

You could make the argument that the highly competitive racing of legends like Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost mixed in with the interest of celebrities and high society created the modern Monaco Grand Prix. This race is iconic. It’s the celebration of Formula 1 racing.
